In Washington, divided government means the Democrats control one branch and the Republicans control the other. This is what most likely will exist over the next two years with the Republicans poised to win control of the House and the Dems holding on to the Senate and White House.
In Springfield it means something else.
In the weird world of Illinois politics divided government means that the Democrats control the Governor’s mansion and the Democrats control the fifth floor of City Hall.
