'Off the 99' podcast: Education reform in Merced
Education reform has been in the news a lot.
First, the Los Angeles Times ran a story connecting individual teachers with student test scores.
On Aug 24, the U.S. Department of Education announced that California won't get Race To The Top funding, Obama's second competitive round of education stimulus funding.
It's been almost 10 years since the Bush administration enacted No Child Left Behind, and the Obama Administration is furthering those mandates with more ideas focused on accountability, such as merit pay for teachers.
This week, "Off the 99" decided to look into the past, present and future of education reform, to see what the initiatives have brought to the classroom.
We spoke with Diane Ravitch, a longtime education historian and author of a new book called "The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education," about her thoughts on the administration continuing to push the mandates of No Child Left Behind.
