U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will travel to Texas on Friday where he will visit Houston and Texas A&M, discussing the Obama administration's efforts to promote excellence in American education. Kevin Jennings, assistant deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, will discuss bullying, the impact of violence on learning and the need for safe schools at the Anti-Defamation League’s 32nd annual National Leadership Conference Monday, May 3, in Washington, D.C. He also will discuss the role of the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools in ensuring that schools remain safe places of learning.
U.S. EDUCATION OFFICIALS TO HOLD TRIBAL CONSULTATION IN ESPANOLA, N.M. WILL GATHER FEEDBACK ON EDUCATION MATTERS AFFECTING AMERICAN INDIANS
Martha Kanter, under secretary for the U.S. Department of Education, will lead a delegation of Education Department officials in a consultation with tribal officials on Monday to gather feedback on education matters affecting American Indians.
CIVIL RIGHTS ASSISTANT SECRETARY TO ADDRESS 28TH ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE MAGNET SCHOOLS OF AMERICA IN TAMPA
Russlynn Ali, assistant secretary for the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education, will deliver the keynote address to the 28th annual national conference of the Magnet Schools of America Monday in Tampa. Ali will highlight the role that magnet schools play in promoting diversity and increasing student achievement. More than 1,200 are expected for the conference, including teachers, principals, superintendents and school board members.
