      The Occupy Seattle demonstrators took some free classes Sunday night and into early Monday morning, courtesy of half a dozen instructors from North Seattle and Seattle Central community colleges.

      The Occupy Seattle demonstrators took some free classes Sunday night and into early Monday morning, courtesy of half a dozen instructors from North Seattle and Seattle Central community colleges.

      The class titles included "The Art of Protest Signs" and "Camera Techniques for Documenting Human Rights Abuses."

      They were held for free in the brick courtyard along Broadway Avenue at Seattle Central, near where demonstrators have been camping out since Saturday.

      The instructors conducted the classes on their own time.

      Tim Stellar, a reporter for the Arizona Daily Star, has written extensively about the Sonoran Science Academy school network and its ties to the Gulen movement. In May 2010, he posted a story about a column by a well-known Turkish journalist and political figure, Nazli Ilicak, which appeared on September 2, 2009 in a popular Turkish daily newspaper.

      In her piece, Ilicak related a conversation she had had with two prominent Turkish men about the Gulen movement’s U.S. charter schools. One of the men was Ayhan Bermek, a wealthy businessman, who is also mentioned on CASILIP’s page “Financial links between the Gulen Movement and Gulen charter schools,ctd.” The other was Enver Altayli.       A group of American-born students have filed lawsuit against the state of Florida for denying them in-state tuition simply because their parents are undocumented immigrants, not the students.

      ‘As an American, and a lifelong Florida resident, I deserve the same opportunities,’ Wendy Ruiz told the Miami Herald.

      Ruiz is one of five students suing the state for what they say is a violation of their rights as citizens.

      Complaints of tampering with the state Regents exams have ballooned since Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg took control of New York City’s schools, newly released data show, placing in stark relief the conflict between allowing teachers to grade their own students’ tests and raising the stakes on the results.

      As the city and state turned test scores into make-or-break indicators of school and student success, the portion of city public high schools facing allegations of test tampering rose to 7 percent in the 2009-10 school year, from 1 percent in 2002-3.
