As the story at Lowell comes out, there are definitely some lessons learned and some people who come out looking good, bad, and mixed.

Here's the central absurdity: two employees were investigated for failure to report inappropriate behavior and the only evidence against them was their report of the inappropriate behavior - the one that satisfied their requirement to report. The people who accused them were the people to whom they made the report - a report that those folks dismissed out of hand. It makes my head hurt to think about it.




Looking bad:
Mr. King. Mr. King comes out looking very bad for a number of reasons, all of them weasel-related. First, if we are to believe him, he dismissed a complaint as being racially motivated without knowing any details about it. If

Quite a few educators have forwarded correspondence they have had with legislators regarding the passage of HB 974 (Tenure/teacher evaluation) and HB 976 (Vouchers)and regarding upcoming bills filed.

I am sharing two here along with my analysis of both to demonstrate how misleading, misinformed or patently false some of their comments are. I will forward this blog to both of these representatives so that they can respond in the event I have misinterpreted their e-mails. It became painfully evident to everyone listening to the live House debate that many of our representatives are not familiar with the bills they are voting on or just haven't studied them. Of course THEY AREN'T EDUCATORS!! That's why we have tried so hard to have our voices heard - usually to no avail.

Far from improving education, high- stakes testing marks a major retreat from fairness, from accuracy, from quality, and from equity. -- Sen. Paul Wellstone (1944-2002).With a shameful broadside against the esteemed Alfie Kohn, Fordham's Michael Petrilli demonstrates once more why he's the darling of The Hoover Institution and all the other fringe-right think-tanks. I don't know what I found more disturbing about Petrilli's recent piece: the endless parade of straw-men he marshals, or his constant allusion to long discredited meritocracy myths.

What made me retch was this passage: "...KIPP network, which boast high student achievement and a well-rounded curriculum." As someone who writes alongside professors
