EDUCATION POLITICS AND POLICY IN THE VOLUNTEER STATE

Who Knew?
Tennessee Textbook Commissioner and potential House of Representatives candidate Laurie-Cardoza Moore testified before House subcommittee yesterday that she believed the commission on which she serves should have expanded authority to be able to regulate books that appear on school library shelves. Here’s video of her remarks and a montage of clips about her background: HEADS UP TN — lost in the
Privatizers of a Feather
Flock together. And there it is. All the groups trying to dismantle K-12 public education in TN are finally locking arms publicly with the Koch Bros. They’re not even trying to hide it anymore. This dispels the myth of so-called “good” charter schools. They’re all part of the same sordid cabal. pic.twitter.com/e71ITaAX5Q — Will Pinkston (@WillPinkston) March 1, 2022 More on SCORE: Bill Frist and
The End Game
Make no mistake, the goal of groups like Moms for Liberty is to end public schools. Period. This movement is being aided and abetted by Gov. Bill Lee. Still not convinced “MOMS FOR IGNORANCE” are enemies of public schools? The Hamilton County chapter stated goal: “To get as many children out of the public schools as possible” https://t.co/sFOgmkD9ro It’s a war on our schools. And @GovBillLee is l

Then, he outlined the reality of the curriculum selection/textbook adoption process in Williamson County and highlighted an alternative text proposed by Moms for Liberty – all in a public meeting of the school board. Here’s video of Welch discussing the manufacture
Cardoza-Moore in the House?
It seems that Laurie Cardoza-Moore is interested in becoming a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. Heads up, Tennessee legislature followers: the next representative from House 63- @GlenCasada ’s seat-could be @CardozaMoore . She’s the member of the Tennessee Textbook Commission and head of an organization once deemed a “hate group” by @splcenter . — Holly McCall (@jhollymc) Februar
A Call for Local Control
The Williamson County school board voted unanimously to oppose Gov. Lee’s plan to allow charter schools to bypass local school boards and appeal directly to Lee’s state charter commission . WATCH: “THIS IS ABOUT LOCAL CONTROL.” The @WCSedu board in @GovBillLee ’s home county voted UNANIMOUSLY for legislators to REJECT HB 2833/SB 2168 — @GovBillLee ’s attempt to bypass local boards as he floods TN
