Last Day Of School Is Permanent At 7 Sacramento Campuses
SACRAMENTO-
The last day of the school year at the Sacramento City Unified School District had extra meaning at seven elementary schools.
They are being closed for good after the district made a move to move 2,300 students from under-enrolled elementary school campuses.
The schools that are closing include Clayton B. Wire, Collis P. Huntington, Fruit Ridge, Joseph Bonheim, Maple, Mark Hopkins and Washington.
At Fruit Ridge Elementary School which has operated continuously since 1911, the 6th grade promotion celebrations were tempered with the knowledge that the school will close.
Scarlet Brewer was happy and excited that her elementary school career is over. But Fruit Ridge has been her school since preschool and she wasn’t eager to see it close.
“…very sad, it’s a big part of my life…lots of memories…I have lots of friends that go here and they’re sad to see it close too,” said Brewer.
Alicia Gonzalez was also promoted from the 6th grade and her excitement was also tinged with sadness.
“It’s the last day of the school year and of the entire school…I don’t think it should close
