Atheists raise $40K for student in RI prayer suit

CRANSTON, R.I.—The American Humanist Association is managing a scholarship fund set up for the 16-year-old atheist at the center of a battle over a prayer banner at a Cranston school.
A blogger at The Friendly Atheist started a campaign to raise money for Jessica Ahlquist, who challenged the constitutionality of the display at Cranston High School West. A federal judge last month ordered the banner removed, and the school committee on Thursday decided not to appeal.
