Assembly Demo Leaders Urge Supporters to Press for GOP Tax Extension Votes

On Saturday, I had a chance to cover a lighter moment for delegates to the state Democratic Convention. The evening was billled as a “Karaoke Night” for convention delegates, hosted by Assembly Member Fiona Ma. But before the festivities began, the Assembly Member, and guest “singer” Assembly Speaker John Perez, made a serious point. Even loyal Democrats should be pushing their own Republican Assembly Members and Senators to vote for Gov. Brown’s temporary tax extension proposal. CTA and labor delegates have been pushing for legislators to approve the tax extension themselves, without waiting for a popular vote, due to the importance of the funds to preserving vital public services, including education.
