20 students maced at St. Louis charter school
St. Louis (KSDK) -- Students at Confluence Academy in downtown St. Louis are recovering from mace sprayed inside their school.
The security guard sprayed mace after witnesses say a fight broke out between students. The fire department responded to evaluate students, sending 20 of them to area hospitals for what they describe as "wellness checks."
Parents and students say a fight broke out involving several students around 1:30 p.m. School officials will only say there was an "incident" that required the security guard to spray mace. They would not confirm the exact nature of that incident.
"I was standing right there so I could get let in the room, and all of a sudden I just started sneezing and coughing because I smelt the mace on me," said freshman Angel Jones.
Edison Learning, out of New York City, manages the Confluence Academy charter schools in St. Louis. A spokesman tells KSDK they will be investigating why the security guard felt it was necessary to use
