Cal fans may be stunned by the decision to cut five sports teams. But few familiar with the burden that athletics adds to campus finances were surprised. For months, Berkeley campus leaders hinted at the unpopular reality that came to pass this week.
Gone are four teams including men's and women's gymnastics, women's lacrosse and men's baseball.
