Legislators in Santa Fe are scrambling to find ways of saving money for next year's budget and education could once again be on the chopping block.New Mexico public schools are already pleading with legislators not to cut education, but in the latest Legislative Finance Committee report, senators and representatives may be targeting charter schools.The report raises questions over whether charter schools are economically efficient and suggests that more money is spent per student at charter schools than at other schools.The report gives three recommendations:- Take away state funds that charter schools get for being small schools, which charter school officials say would force a majority of
