Education chief defends cancellation of Common Core forums



ALBANY
New York Education Commissioner John King on Tuesday defended the decision to cancel four upcoming forums on the state's new education standards, saying the scene at the first meeting in Poughkeepsie "made it impossible to have constructive dialogue."
In his first public appearance since he was shouted down in Poughkeepsie last Thursday, King said the remaining four New York State Parent Teacher Association forums won't be rescheduled, but that he is looking to create "other opportunities to have dialogue with parents."
"We'll look for other opportunities to create constructive dialogue, but there's nothing constructive about a room of people just yelling and heckling," King said at an
