January 3 & 4: Shout truth to power-in-hiding – Springfield, IL
The Illinois House of Representatives was scheduled to meet January 3rd & 4th. We Are One Illinois, including the Illinois Education Association, planned a massive rally in the state capitol of Springfield in the dead of winter to oppose cuts to teacher and other public employee pensions that would do little or nothing to reduce the state debt.As a special surprise Christmas gift to all Illinois employees and retirees, the Illinois House of Representatives cancelled their scheduled meeting until a later date. Yes, they are a super-majority democratic legislature of representatives. Yes, democrat Mike Madigan has been the Speaker of the House for over 27 consecutive years. Yes, they plan to raid pension systems for all working and retired state employees in the name of “for the good of the state.”
The rally will be held in spite of their unwillingness to work “for the good of the state.”
