Take a Look at the New Martin Luther King JR. Memorial (VIDEO)
The striking 28-foot statue of the civil rights leader marks the first time a member of a minority group, and a non president is memorialized on the National Mall.
The memorial opened to the public yesterday and will remain open through Thursday.
Friday and Saturday the site will be closed in preparation for the formal dedication ceremony this Sunday, when President Obama will unveil the artwork in front of a crowd expected to reach the half a million people.
Sunday’s ceremony coincides with the 48th anniversary of Mr. King’s emblematic “I Have a Dream Speech.”
