SOS March in DC: And to think this used to be Rhee's town

This used to be Michelle Rhee’s town.

This is where she made a name for herself as the no-nonsense education reformer, eagerly grabbing a broom to sweep away bad teachers and winning admiring accolades from the likes of Bill Gates and Eli Broad.

But on Saturday, thousands of teachers, parents, students and others who really care about education gathered on The Ellipse under a broiling July sun and essentially told Michelle Rhee and her kind they are no longer welcomed here.

They told her they had enough of her standardized testing terror. They told her they were tired of billionaires and corporations deciding what is best for their kids. And they told her they had enough of layoffs and program cuts.
