Denver Student Union hosts the first annual State of the Student Address and deliver’s petition
On March 3rd, the Denver Student Union and our supporters will be hosting a demonstration and press conference on the
steps of the Colorado State Capitol to show others that our opinions about our education are valid and student
participation in schools should be valued and encouraged. Students themselves will deliver the “State of the Student
Address” – an opportunity for us speak about the harm that is being done by “high stakes” standardized testing and to put
forward our own agenda for a holistic and democratic education.

For the last twelve years, No Child Left Behind and Race To The Top have created a standardized education that fails to
prepare students for the responsibilities of life after high school. On March 3rd the Denver Student Union will be
declaring our frustrations with our current education system and stating what we, the students, want to see changed in our
schools.
