According to the State Department of Education, in Connecticut, a magnet school is a “publicly funded school operated by a local or regional school district, regional educational service center or by cooperative agreement involving two or more districts.”
The Department of Education goes on to say that the purpose of a magnet school is “to reduce, eliminate or prevent the racial, ethnic or economic isolation of public school students while offering a high-quality curriculum that supports educational improvement
Next year, the Windham STEM Magnet will be opening its doors to the students of Windham and the surrounding region. When completely up and running, the Windham STEM Magnet will serve 600 students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade.
