The Chicago mayor sends his kids to a NAIS school. I've worked in independent schools, and while they run a range, I really like them. They're what schools can be when they're run by teachers.
They ain't cheap, and the tuition is just the beginning of a lifelong financial relationship that these schools necessarily cultivate with their families.
