Save Our Schools March and National Call to Action
WASHINGTON—Thousands of teachers, parents and activists rallied and marched on the White House today to show their displeasure over test-driven school reform efforts and cuts in education funding.
The noon-time rally and march, which began and ended on The Ellipse near the White House, was the centerpiece of the Save Our Schools March and National Call to Action. The four-day event was largely organized by a coalition of grassroots groups, which received funding help from the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers and others.
Standing in the backyard of the White House, speaker after speaker offered largely polite but sometimes biting criticism of the education policies of President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan.
