How much money would you pay for your child's education? How much would you pay for your neighbor's child? Is Colorado spending enough money to provide all of our children with a quality education?

On Aug. 1, the plaintiffs in Lobato vs. The State of Colorado began arguments in front of Denver District Court judge Sheila Rappaport. The central claims are that the state's school finance system doesn't meet the constitutional requirement for "thorough and uniform" and that the existing system should be declared unconstitutional. The "relief" that the plaintiffs seek is for the court to force the legislature to create and fully fund a new system.

The case will be decided by Rappaport (and it's probable that it will be appealed to our state Supreme Court),
