Another View: Superintendent broke contract with teachers

Erik Knudson, second vice president of the Sacramento City Teachers Association, is responding to the Aug. 16 editorial, "Flap over schedules only hurts schools," which states: "This petty squabble over the calendar just weeks before school starts dims" the hopes of a "new spirit of cooperation."
Sacramento City Unified School District, the school board, and the Sacramento City Teachers Association all agreed to a two-year contract last year that included $4.8 million in givebacks from teacher paychecks to help the district, once again, balance its books. To ensure some planning stability we also agreed to a calendar for that same duration.
