School Board Candidate Forum -- May 20th
Too often the school board race is a sleepy one, something that people forget about. It shouldn't be.
voiceofsandiego.org is giving you the perfect chance to meet the candidates, find out what they think and ask them the questions you care about.
We're bringing the incumbents and the challengers together in a live forum to ask them the best questions that our readers can think up. You'll get to hear their thoughts, question them on tough issues and mingle with them afterwards.
Thursday, May 20th

7pm-9pm
Liberty Station, Corner of Dewey Rd. & Historic Decatur Rd., Bldg. 202, Suite 205

Moderated by VOSD's Emily Alpert
The event and parking are free. Although advance registration is not required, if you do plan to attend, sending a quick email to summer@voiceofsandiego.org will help ensure we have plenty of chairs.
Schools are confronted with constant challenges, from budget cuts to how to combat the dropout rate. Who is going to take on those challenges? Who will speak for you at San Diego Unified? How do they feel about charter schools or teacher tenure? How do they plan to turn around the worst schools? And what programs will they protect and which will they sacrifice when budgets are slashed?
This is a rare joint forum for candidates running from areas B (which includes Tierrasanta, Scripps Ranch and part of City Heights) and C (which includes La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Point Loma and downtown.)
They're being put to the test in the June primary, when voters in those areas will choose which two candidates will advance to the fall election. But even if you don't live in those areas, you need to know all about them before November. So why not start now? Come and hear what the people who want to lead your schools have to say.
