Educator Jose Vilson is a passionate supporter of public education. I think my first encounter with him was watching poetry of his at the Save Our Schools rally in the summer of 2011. He’s also a frequent contributor to GOOD Magazine.
I’ve had other online encounters with Mr. Vilson regarding tactics and tone of educational activism in support of public schools. In hindsight, he had some very good points, but having any kind of discussion on Twitter is nearly worthless.
I agree with Mr. Vilson’s points in this article, that to appreciate teachers we should pay them a living wage, provide them the resources they need, and improve their working conditions. He also offers the following:
