Beaverton parents ask school board to 'please tax me' after seeing the effects of teacher layoffs

Beaverton parent Kevin O'Donnell held up his property tax statement and asked the Beaverton School Board to tax him.

O'Donnell said things are looking up now compared tolast November when Beaverton voters said no to a local option levy that would have raised about $14 million for this school year, in which the district laid off nearly 100 teachers.

"Home values are increasing... builders are building, homes are selling," O'Donnell said. "You have the parents' sympathy."

He suggested a local option levy for the May ballot.
