Several days ago the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board voted to lessen the number of units necessary to graduate from high school, while at the same time requiring all students at LAUSD to fulfill the A-G college preparatory requirements if they wanted to graduate. At the very least, this would seem kind of a mixed message, where on the one hand you are making it easier to graduate, while on the other, you are making it harder. A closer analysis of what is going on is even more alarming.

Superintendent John Deasy had proposed that the present 230 unit requirement to graduate from LAUSD should be lowered to a mere 180 units.
