Tell us: Student rights and parental notification

As education administrators have increasingly introduced police officers into schools, the result has been a blurring of the lines of legal and moral questioning of students by police.

Seeking to counter that blurring, the U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that police must factor the age of young suspects in their decisions about whether juveniles should be given Miranda rights, including the disclosure that suspects don’t have to talk to police and may ask for a lawyer.

The ruling has not settled the issue, however. Many questions still remain about the treatment of students by authorities.
