Update: It Got Better (For White Parents)
While many teachers and some low-income communities may not have felt that the 1995-2011 "Daley era" did much for them or for CPS over all, white parents were much more appreciative and some overall indicators of progress ticked upwards, notes a new story from the Chicago Reporter that I found fascinatingly counterintuitive and strangely uncritical. The overall percentages of kids who went to public schools rose and the public school participation rate among white parents zoomed almost 10 percentage points
