I spend a lot of time answering the question, “Why don’t we make it easier to get rid of bad teachers. Why do you defend tenure?”
I answer by using an old family practice. Answer a question with another question. What is the problem that is being solved by firing more teachers faster. Schools on the north shore have had unions, tenure and seniority. So do schools on the west side of Chicago. Why aren’t we addressing the real problem?
