Florida public school teachers aren’t in line for pay raises next year, but the state has a new contest where one lucky teacher will get free chicken. And just in time for a belated Thanksgiving dinner, too.
The state Board of Education has nixed teacher raises, red lining the item in its proposed budget for next year. But in a show of largesse, the state Department of Education today announced a new program where teachers each month can put their name in the hat to win a prize. This month it’s chicken.
The contest announced by Education Commisisoner Eric Smith is called Teacher Treasures.
“Our teachers are Florida’s treasures,” Smith said. “This effort is just a small way to say thank you for all you do.”
And small might be the key word here.
