Sixteen contractors violated state labor laws while building a $150 million public high school in San Fernando, a trade group representing nonunion contractors said Friday.

The violations were detected during an independent audit commissioned by the Associated Builders and Contractors, California Cooperation Committee. The review was conducted by Contractors Compliance and Monitoring Inc., in San Ramon.

ABC-CCC officials said the audit found that 16 of the contractors hired by the Los Angeles Unified School District were unlicensed, underpaid employees or failed to adequately supervise apprentice workers.

The ABC-CCC has filed a formal complaint about the alleged violations with the California Department of Industrial Relations and the Division of Apprenticeship Standards.
