Mass. GOP calls for delay in ed standards vote

BOSTON - Republican gubernatorial contender Charles Baker is asking why Massachusetts is considering changing its public schools curriculum after the existing program has vaulted the state to the top of national assessment tests.
Baker said at a Statehouse news conference today a proposal to adopt new national standards for math and English classes is being rushed through at mid-summer. He says Gov. Deval Patrick is doing so to appease the Obama administration and the Massachusetts Teachers Association after it endorsed him.
The state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education is slated to vote on
