* The real "UFT Charter Chicanery" (Editorial, Jan. 5) is that charter schools are just another way for fat cats to channel public money into their own pockets.
Charters pay teachers less than the public-school system pays while making them work longer hours and more days.
Thanks to Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor Joel Klein, the charters get free space in public-school buildings, which saves them a bundle of money. Then the charter schools can pay exorbitant fees to their "management groups," a k a the fat cats.
If New York drops the cap on charter schools and gets the $700 million, where will it go? Into the fat cats' pockets.
