"FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) - Like many states, Kentucky is scrambling to meet a deadline to try to win millions of federal dollars for education. A bill which passed the House unanimously on Monday ran into trouble in a Senate committee when some senators tried to amend the bill to allow public charter schools in Kentucky.Kentucky is one of only 11 states that does not allow public charter schools. That could hurt the state's chances of winning that federal money, but some lawmakers argued there was not enough time to study that issue and meet the January 19 deadline."
