Dallas ISD will start the school year with about 60 new principals. A large share of those new positions came about after DISD demoted principals. And some campus leaders quit or retired to avoid being demoted or possibly having their contracts not renewed.
I’ve come up with 21 principals who fit that description. And the accountability ratings for their schools is surprising. Seven principals ran schools that not only “met standard” but also received at least one distinction. A school can a distinction in reading, math and for ranking in the top 25 percent in a group of 40 similar Texas schools. Seven principals also had schools that got the lowest rating, “improvement required.”
