The union’s statement is misguided, and I would suggest that is purposely so. The call for a moratorium on standardized testing is a call for a temporary quieting of the teachers and parents while the next-level of state (nationally) mandated assessments makes its way down the pipe. AFT’s rally cry to put the brakes on the stakes rings hollow, since the stakes are only to get higher when PARCC hits New York during the 2014-15 school year. The tests are a small part of the big picture, and the movers of the grand plan know that our chipping away at state tests is of minimal concern.
Randi Weingarten is pushing forward with her own misinformation and distraction campaign–again–to take eyes off of the real dangers.
