Mayor Michael Bloomberg's pick for schools chancellor could get final approval as early as today, in a controversial deal that some parents and teachers are railing about.
Under the deal, the state education commissioner would grant a waiver to Cathie Black that would allow the media mogul to lead the school system with a deputy chancellor serving as her second in command.
Just like current Schools Chancellor Joel Klein, Black needs the waiver to serve as chancellor because she does not have a background in education.
