UC System Looks to Reduce Racist Incidents

We are only a few months into 2010 and there have already been various racist incidents at University of California campuses. Schools like UC San Diego, UC Davis, and UC Santa Cruz have all had recent incidents that have upset many students and residents of the area. This is why officials of the UC system got together yesterday to discuss ways to improve race relations across all of campus locations. One of the ideas mentioned was a better admissions process, so that they bring people onto campuses that are committed to education.Students are upset, and UC President Mark Yudof agrees, as he wants this type of behavior to stop so people can focus on earning their degree. There is no official action yet that the UCofficials have put in place, but it is expected that they will step forward with plans for improvement in the coming months. Change is definitely needed at this time, as students are already having issues with classes being cut and increases in fees. The last thing needed at this time is for students to also have to worry about racist incidents on campus.
It is still unclear what the exact root cause is for these racist incidents, but many feel it is partly due to the admission process which has led to fewer minority students on UC campuses.
