The powerful influence of think tanks, fake news, astroturfing, and lies in our policymaking process is nothing new to us. In the past, the influence of lobbying was frequently discussed in the news. But until recently, we didn’t hear much about how think tanks, fake news, astroturfing, and lies impact politics. Yet, their dominance over policies runs deeper than the D.C. swamp where most reside.
Think tanks got their name during the WWII era. They are non-governmental policy research organizations — or they are supposed to be.

Maybe there has been a bit too much “recycling” of research.
Whether or not think tanks work as originally suggested, for “the common good,” comes into question particularly when money enters the equation.
