CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Teachers Union says it will open a strike headquarters on Saturday in anticipation of a possible walk-out on Monday.
Union and district officials also plan to continue contract negotiations at noon Saturday, though a union spokeswoman has said they remain far apart on issues such as job security and pay.
The union says it is opening a strike office to distribute picket signs and other materials to teachers, parents and others in preparation for a Monday walk-out. The office also would be the base for any union activity during a strike.
If teachers walk off the job Monday, it would be the first teachers strike in Chicago in 25 years.
