Gov. Christie introduces new N.J. high school testing program

Today the governor announced new testing standards for high schools.PLAINSBORO — Gov. Chris Christie today announced new education initiatives, including changing the way high school students are tested in preparation for graduation.
Currently, students take the a high school proficiency exam, known as HSPA, in eleventh grade. Under the new plan, students will take end of the year tests in certain subjects in the 9th, 10th and 11th grades.
Education officials said the new testing system, which will be phased in over time, will identify students who are not ready for college earlier in high school and give those students extra attention so that they may graduate
