Random thoughts for a Sunday morning:

» Dan Castillo has been jettisoned, so now we'll get to see if he truly was the epicenter of Stockton Unified School District's problems, as some colleague trustees, employees, community members and bloggers seemed to think.

» The onus on the SUSD Board of Trustees now is on Bill Ross, Beverly Fitch McCarthy and Sal Ramirez. If the elimination of Castillo and the addition of Steve Smith is truly going to flip-flop the voting bloc, then the trustee holdovers must prove they can provide the leadership to avoid past board failures.

» Instead of worrying about who has the 4-3 voting advantage, let's hope all involved will truly worry about students.

» And who is a bit below the radar but still in the crosshairs? How about Mick Founts? The heir apparent to Rick Wentworth as county superintendent of schools has taken an important role in the SUSD superintendent search. The district can't afford to blow this
