Analyzing Edujobs

The Edujobs bill got a major boost today as the Senate voted through its version. The House will likely pass it early next week and send it on to the President. I just ran some quick numbers on theDepartment of Education’s state-by-state table on teacher jobs saved, and, taking those numbers at face value, here’s what I found:
  1. The $10 billion fund will save an estimated 138,800 teacher jobs, or a little over $72,000 per job.
  2. Because the funding is based on a formula, the amount of money per job saved varies by state. My home state of Iowa will receive $96,490,048 to save an estimated 1,500 teacher jobs, or $64,326.70 per job
