On this eve of a new year, let us celebrate by taking a moment to remember a favorite teacher, one who inspired us, or challenged us– and one who was not necessarily held high in our estimation until we matured enough to appreciate his/her efforts on our behalf. In this spirit, I feature a few open letters of appreciati

Now is definitely a time when we need both more hope and greater faith…
As the old year retreats into the past and the New Year lays itself out before us, I know I speak for many when I say good riddance to 2016 and that we share a hope that 2017 brings people of good will, good health, happiness and a share of prosperity.
There is no doubt that we have entered dark and dangerous times, a time in which truth and facts are easily pushed aside by those who rely on fear, hate and lies to get their way.
Furthermore, far too many of our elected officials, and other leaders, frame the debate as simply one between the status quo on the one side and the dangerous upheaval of our society on the other.

We are all familiar with the attacks on public schools and teachers. We spend a lot of time saying NO: no to privatization, no to high-stakes testing, no to rating and ranking students based on test scores, no to evaluating teachers by test scores, no to

Peter Greene: The 12 Things I Will Do This Year
Peter Greene has made a list of the 12 things he intends to do this year. They are not exactly resolutions, which are like saying “I will lose 10 pounds and stop smoking,” nor are they wishes, that depend on what someone else does. They are intentions: This is what I will do. We can all resonate to his intentions. I did. For example: 1) Be present and pay attention. It is easy to get wrapped up i
Mitchell Robinson’s New Year’s Resolutions
