Daily Kos: #CUT_THIS <> List of Budget Cut Suggestions
Well, it's been a while since I posted a Diary. You have all done such a great job I found nothing to add. But I have been tweeting ad nauseum most days. So still working hard to spread facts/truth.
Started this little TWITTER project and would really like your ideas/help:
#CUT_THIS
Things Tweets would like to see the Members of Congress cut instead of programs that help those who can least afford to lose anything.
Here's some examples:
#CUT_THIS <> Funding for DARPA's CYBORG INSECT Program <> This could come back and bite us <> http://bit.ly/... #tcot #p2 #deficit
#CUT_THIS --> 500 RETIRED CONGRESS earn $26,000,000/yr. IN PENSIONS! Most are VERY RICH http://1.usa.gov/... #p2 #tcot #99ersr
You are invited to join the #CUT_THIS team. You can help by RTing #CUT_THIS tweets and/or ADD TWEETS about what you want cut? If you include link to back up information, it can help, but it's not necessary.
You can also cut and paste any #CUT_THIS tweets and post. The further they spread, the better! Will you help?

Straight Up, Between The Lines
Read carefully between the lines in Rick Hess’ recent blog post, “Can the Common Core Coalition Keeps [sic] Its Finlandophiles in Check?”
Predicting a “fifty-fifty chance that the Common Core effort will dissolve into an ideological clash,” Hess writes that in “one short document, the Shankerites managed to do much to undermine the loose confederation that had supported the Common Core.” He also lumps a broad spectrum of signatories into one supposedly errant educational faction. People such as former U.S. Surgeon General M. Joycelyn Elders, former U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley, Reagan appointee Checker Finn, George H.W. Bush appointee Charlie Kolb, George W. Bush appointee Susan B. Neuman, former Lockheed Martin CEO Norman Augustine, and the National Council on Teacher Quality’s Kate Walsh — all are labeled as being “a slew of left-leaning academics and

Budget Analysis: Will there be anyone left to turn on the lights if you don’t lay off teachers?
As we all know, Governor Perry recently stated that school district leaders were choosing to lay off teachers rather than choosing to lay off other staff and reduce non-payroll program expenditures. GOP senators have said much the same thing. For example, Senator Shapiro (R-Plano) stated, “”We have said that from the beginning. There will be cuts. But our first priority will be in the classroom.” Similarly, Sen.Patrick (R-Houston says we have to “prioritize” our spending to focus on the classroom.
While teachers are vital to student outcomes, other positions directly impact student outcomes as well I I showed in another post (http://fullerlook.wordpress.com/2011/04/10/staff-directly-impacting-students/).
Let’s review who directly impacts student outcomes:
1) Teachers and educational aides directly impact student outcomes since they are in classrooms every day with students and both work with students intensively. Educational aides make possible the mainstreaming of special needs students, ELL students, students struggling academically, and students with behavior problems. Without these aides, teachers could not be as effective with all students. If you doubt this, ask a teacher with a diverse groups of kids with different needs and who has an educational aide in her classroom.
2) Principals, assistant principals, nurses, counselors, and librarians also have a direct impact on student

I’m not sure exactly how long they’ve been aware of it, but I think at this point it’s very clear that most Americans realize that both major political parties are worthless at best, and insane at worst.
Consider the pattern:
- George W. Bush and a Republican Congress preside over a government distinguished by incompetence, endless war, the enrichment of moneyed interests at the expense of all others, and contempt for women, gays, minorities and the rule of law. They lose the 2006 and 2008 elections in a landslide.
- Barack Obama and an overwhelmingly Democratic Congress preside over a government distinguished by incompetence, endless war, unemployment, foreclosures, the enrichment of moneyed interests at the expense of all others, and contempt for women, gays, minorities and the rule of law. They lose the 2010 elections in a landslide.
- Barack Obama and a divided Congress add draconian budget cuts to the mix, coupled with tax cuts for the rich. This is presented as “shared sacrif

Another Education
I must admit that I’m impressed with the likes of The New York Times and Forbes for including perspectives from progressives about the state of education. It seems that the counter-narrative about the current state of education is delving into a solid set of talking points: no corporatization, inquiry-based learning, publicly-funded learning centers, elevated teacher professionalism, and financially equitable institutions, which will all create a
