SCOTTS VALLEY - Many parents in Scotts Valley Unified School District, who have become increasingly worried about their children's education in the wake of the state slashing school funds, are taking financial problems into their own hands.
To help the four-school district bridge a nearly $2 million deficit projected by 2012, the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation has planned a Community Day for Sept. 18 to rally everyone - from business owners to the resident with an old couch to sell - to make a donation to the district.
Community Day is a citywide event that calls on businesses to contribute a percentage of proceeds that day and
A measure on the Nov. 2 ballot would fund classrooms and labs, keep libraries open, maintain job retraining programs and provide student support services for students at Foothill and De Anza community colleges. No money would be spent on administrative salaries or benefits.
