March is testing madness month in most areas around the country. Schools have been gearing up with “test pep rallies” and other nonsense trying to encourage motivation to test and redirect student and teacher anxiety away from the grim reality: that this new testing regime is madness and that it must stop! And there are thousands of parents, students, and teachers calling out for an end to it.
If we were to mention all the horror stories United Opt Out administrators have heard from parents, students, and teachers from all over the country, this post might not ever end. However, we’re also happy to say that if we were to mention all the courageous testing resistance and refusal stories…this post would never end either. Many of us have heard the same thing from our state departments of education: “There is no opt out waiver. Sorry but we cannot accommodate this request.”  So let’s make this clear. We are not asking. We recognize there’s no “request to opt out” process (unless you live in CA, the only state with an actual official opt out clause). We are REFUSING.
