Area educator to lead state teachers association

A veteran teacher and counselor from Davis will be the new president of the 325,000-member California Teachers Association.
Dean E. Vogel was elected by delegates in Los Angeles Saturday, as part of the organization's quarterly State Council of Education meetings.
He will replace current CTA President David A. Sanchez.
Sanchez will term out of office June 25 after four years.
Vogel's election was unanimous, CTA officials said.
His career as an educator spans 37 years in positions in elementary and higher education.
