When Data Privacy Bills Don’t Protect Privacy: A Mom Takes on NGOs, Governmental Agencies and Politicians

Is this what your state legislature believes when it concerns personal student data?

What’s happening in Louisiana with SB449 is happening in Missouri with HB1157 and is probably happening in your state.  These are bogus privacy bills introduced by senators or representatives on behalf of the state educational agencies allegedly offering data protection with the personally identifiable information it is allowing third parties and various agencies to access without your consent.

A mom testifies in Louisiana about how this bill does nothing to protect student privacy but instead allows the state agency to allow even more authority to gather data information and provide access  on students.  Her testimony echoes what parents are saying throughout the United States.  Watch the video as she lays out her concerns about data mining children and her experiences in fighting for privacy:

• Kids are becoming a data index
• In her legislative experiences, statist and elitist mentality pervades
• Parents have been villianized in every way possible
• Parents are omitted in everything…”we matter nothing”
• This is my children’s information
• Unintended consequences
• There is a freedom and right to privacy and this bill does nothing to protect this right
