 On the evening of Sep. 20, 2012, the Los Altos United Methodist Church held a facilitated “listening” and “healing” event in a well-meaning attempt to bring together reasonable minds on both sides of the increasingly bitter BCS-vs-LASD battle.
This worthwhile peacemaking event was promoted by, among others, BCS Foundation Board Member Gil Ahrens, as a way to “lower the level of hostility”:
“There will be an opportunity for everyone to speak and be heard on the question of: “How have you experienced the BCS-LASD conflict?” I am very hopeful that this can be a constructive element in the process of community healing. PLEASE share this others you think would have interest.”
I showed up late, as did a number of other people I’m sure we would agree are pro-LASD. When I arrived, facilitators had already begun inviting the assembled group of 50 or so people to share their personal feelings and perspectives. I didn’t speak, but I took notes of what quite a number of others said.
Since the testimonials I heard that evening (after my late arrival) seemed to run 3-to-1 pro-BCS and anti-LASD, the crowd seemed to be mostly charter proponents. I heard later from friends who were there from the start that the microphone was passed among mostly charter parents during the first part of the meeting before I arrived. Pro-BCS

Dear Judge,
I know that Davontaye’s actions caused the deaths of four people. But please don’t give him life in prison. He suffers from Povertenza. You may not know about this condition but Povertenza is an illness that people from impoverished socio-economic backgrounds have.
Due to the inability to access quality education and employment, Davontaye’s development has been stifled. This leads to poor decision making and I would further argue that since his neighborhood sees so much death and destruction, that he may even suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome in addition to Povertenza.
Judge, it is clear that Davontaye can not be held responsible for his actions. He needs rehabilitation, not prison. Prison would only worsen his mental condition.

This defense obviously doesn’t work for black  and poor youth. Yet, news outlets are spiraling about 16 year-old  Ethan Couch who caused the deaths of 4 people by drunk driving. His defense, was that he suffered from “Affluenza” a

On Wendesday night the PWC School board will vote to approve the bids for building the 12th high school.  I suspect the votes will go in favor of the school plus the pool. Chairman Johns, Dr Otaigbe, Mrs Jessie, and Mrs Williams have all said they strongly support the pool.  Mrs Covington says she’s undecided, but has indicated her support for the pool in the past.  Mr Trenum, Mrs Bell, and Mrs Satterwhite are opposed to the pool.
By now most of you know the issues about the pool.  Many folks have been shocked at the secrecy within the school system and the disdain certain employees appear to have for the public and elected officials.  From the pool to the Lynn family cemetery and moving their graves, this school and the pool has been an example of how not to do things.
Other folks are covering the Lynn family cemetery, so I won’t repeat those issues.  The school division’s behavior in this regard has been, in my opinion, reprehensible.
The pool, and the runaround about it, is another story.  I haven’t been shocked by the secrecy, twisted logic, changing stories, and attitudes because I stared this blog during the math wars.  What folks are shocked by in this case is what I’ve seen from PWCS time and time again.
PWCS begrudgingly admitted that the pool would be included in the school in February of this year and then, only after a citizen exposed it in comments before the school board.  Since then the school division has been engaged in a multi-tiered
